Is it time to recall Luther?
Game On!

The recall effort has begun. Luther's vote for the most reactionary legislation in the history of the state tells the story. The budget bills of Scott Walker are a direct attack on school children, the elderly, the poor, and the middle class. Of course he has provided himself a 100 million dollar slush fund to dole out to businesses and cronies without oversight. The long term goals of extreme right wing billionaires are coming to fruition. They wish to turn the clock back to 1880 or before. In Scott Walker they have found a useful tool.....and Luther Olsen has become one as well. All the Koch money he has been promised for the recall is not going to save him now.

Recall Poll Results...Good News

The Daily Kos has commissioned a poll of the eight Republicans up for recall. Here are the results.

Here are the topline results for the Daily Kos / Public Policy Polling surveys of all eight Republican-held state Senate districts targeted for recall. The polls were conducted March 11th, 12th and 13th. Among other questions, each of the eight surveys tested a "generic Democrat" against the named Republican incumbent.

Democrats need to win three of these eight districts in order to regain a majority in the Wisconsin state Senate. As it happens, Democrats currently lead in three districts:

    * Senator Dan Kapanke trails a generic Democrat 55-41
    * Senator Randy Hopper trails 49-44
    * Senator Luther Olsen trails 49-47

In two other districts, incumbent Republicans are under 50%, and should face competitive elections:

    * Senator Rob Cowles leads 45-43
    * Senator Sheila Harsdorf leads 48-44

The Republican incumbent is favored in another district, but still isn't safe:

    * Senator Alberta Darling leads 52-44

Republicans are strongly favored in two deep red districts:

    * Senator Mary Lazich leads 56-34
    * Senator Glenn Grothman leads 60-32

All in all, Democrats have a solid chance to retake the Wisconsin state Senate through the recall elections. However, the task ahead of them is far from a slam dunk.

The polls had very small margins of error, due to an extremely strong survey response rate. Full analysis, survey results, crosstabs and data will be posted on Daily Kos at 11 a.m. eastern, Tuesday.

More Good News!!!!

It appears that we have almost 50% of the signatures necessary for the recalls of the Republican Senators. This is the link to the Washington Post Article.

Scotty's Cowardice

On Saturday the weasel in chief made a trip to Washburn to address a small number of supporters (isn't it always a small group?), but was met by 2,000 protesters. That is a huge number for up north. The restaurant where it was held covered their windows with opaque sheeting so that the Gov and his supporters would not be troubled by the sight of the workers of Wisconsin. He is afraid of teachers, afraid of social workers, afraid of public nurses, afraid of the police and firemen, and afraid of the people of Wisconsin. The recalls of Luther and the rest are just a starting point for next year. In 2012 with a recall we can send Scotty to his corporate job with the Kochs. Then we can be Wisconsin again, instead of the new Mississippi.

Below is a link to the newspaper story.

How Did We Get Here?
1. Scott Walker took the governorship with a a projection of a 121 Million dollar surplus for 2011 (Source: Fiscal Bureau of Wisconsin view here http://legis.wisconsin.gov/lfb/Misc/2011_01_31Vos&Darling.pdf).

2. Faced with a surplus, Scott Walker asked for and Luther Olsen obliged with a 140 million dollar package  of tax breaks and and spending to special interest groups. Scott walker claims that the tax cuts for his buddies don't do into effect unti next year. Then Why the budget crisis now? What a little weasel he is. When Wisconsin needs a Badger we get Scotty.

3. Surprise! We now have a budget deficit, and thus Scott Walker could unleash his plans to dismantle the bargaining rights of all Wisconsin public employees. His emergency Budget Repair Bill (remember now that Scott and Luther created the emergency)  represents the transformation of hundreds of thousands of teachers, city workers, snow plow operators, public nurses, clerks, social workers, and others into second class Wisconsin citizens. This is not a bill about health insurance or pensions. It is a bill that takes away the right to bargain for anything, be it working conditions, grievance procedures, or anything else. Wisconsin has a long and proud labor tradition that dates back to the 1880s. In fact seven Wisconsin workers were killed (including a 13 year boy) by the National Guard in the 1880s striking for what we all think is normal...the eight hour day. Scott and Luther seem to want to take us back to that era.

4. Here is where Luther ought to be ashamed of himself. Even if the proposals in Walker's bill were necessary, one would think it would take some study and deliberation before making such a massive change affecting hundreds of thousands of people. No, Luther thought that one day of hearings would be sufficient, and limiting testimony to two minutes would provide insight and wisdom. Most Wisconsin families take a lot more time than that to pick out a new television. We study Consumer Reports, look for sales, read reviews and take some consideration into our purchase. Luther's idea of research..."I trust Scotty." This is not representing the people of the 14th. It is acting as a pure political hack, following the dictates of his party.

5. But there is one more surprise in the the bill that Luther was so ready to approve. Hidden away is a provision that will allow Scott Walker to change any administrative rules in Medicare, Badger Care and other medical programs serving hundreds of thousands of the poorest of us without Legislative approval (just the passive approval of one committee). This would allow Scott Walker to determine who gets medical care and who does not, without any input or approval. This isn't just a death panel. It creates a "Death Czar" named Scott Walker. For this provision alone Luther Olsen should be very ashamed that he was prepared to vote for the bill.

What Is Behind This?

Perhaps the question should be "Who is behind this?"  The answer keeps leading to a couple of Right Wing  Billionaires "The Koch Brothers." These two 70 plus year olds are worth about 40 billion dollars (inherited of course...what else would you expect?). They have long been involved in extreme right wing radical groups and policies. Their organization was responsible for busing in the out of state Walker supporters on Saturday. I have included a number of links for you to see what their deep involvement is in this whole affair in Wisconsin. They are using us as an experiment, directing, and funding its progress. Scott Walker was rewarded by them with campaign cash and millions in out of state ad buys during the last election. I wonder what Luther expects.
